Gala Association

Last years Gala was ‘one of the best in years’, ‘a great success’ according to comments received from the community. This we believe was all down to the larger number of floats in the parade; it was also great to see so many toddlers, mums, dads and adults walking in the parade showing a real community spirit. Thanks to all for making a great day. The expenditure for the field and parade was £4,535.

9th December from 4.00pm to 6.30pm the Gala Christmas Party will be held at the Elmete Social Club - there will be Carol Singers a Suma band, Disco and Father Christmas will be in attendance with goodies for the children. The bar will be open for the attending parents. On occasions like this all are welcome.

February 2013 [date to be advised] the Gala will hold a 70's/80's Disco at the Elmete Social Club, everyone is welcome and if anyone would like to dress 'in keeping' with those Golden Years of Pop, please feel free.

Also 18th May 2013 is the Gala, all the usual attractions on the field and interesting activities in the arena. We look forward to seeing you.

We have achieved quite a lot this year – Refurbishing the ‘Welcome to Sherburn’ signs at a cost of £2,280 for the signs and a further £1,236 for provision and maintenance of the hanging baskets and flowers. The Gala Association will be formerly handing the signs over to the Parish Council in the near future to comply with planning regulations. – The Association replaced the bench outside Boots at a cost of £500. – We also donated £3,000 to the new Sherburn Community Transport bus. – Planted daffodil bulbs and stocks in the White Swan front raised bed.

We are now in the process of preparing and refurbishing the Christmas Lights, most having to be changed to rope lights as bulbs are now obsolete. We would appreciate any volunteers to help put up the lights on 26th& 27th November, 9am outside the White Swan. If you have any spare time please contact Alma Hodgson on 01977684518. We are also looking to provide a fir tree for the green outside the Chapel again also we hope to provide a fir tree on the parking area by the carpet shop on the Cross.

Thank you to all those people who support the Gala by attending the events.

It is your Village, if you would like to make a difference please join us and we can make it even better.
